Cadet Park and Historical Walks  

Cadet ParkIn 2004, during the 225th anniversary festivities of Finnish officer education, part of the lakeshore park by the road passing Rantasalmi village centre was named Cadet Park. Outlining the park are three walks named after three prominent persons in the history of Haapaniemi Cadet School. 

Yrjö Maunu Sprengtporten Walk:
Yrjö Maunu Sprengtporten 1740–1819Colonel, brigade commander, later major-general and the first governor-general of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Founder of Finnish officer education. 

Samuel Möller Walk:
Samuel Möller 1743–1815Lieutenant-colonel, clergyman, head of Haapaniemi Cadet School 1779–1808 and teacher in Haapaniemi field surveying school 1812–1814. Father of Finnish officer education and officer upbringing. 

Otto Carl von Fieandt Walk:
Otto Carl von Fieandt 1758–1825Lieutenant-colonel, teacher in Haapaniemi Cadet School and head of Haapaniemi field surveying school 1812–1819. In the middle of the park is a stone brought from the original location of the cadet school., and on the stone is a plate with the name of the park on it. Apple trees of the kind “Cadet” have been planted on the sides of the path leading to the stone.
